Things to check when a lighting system fails.
Keep in mind that it is rarely a transformer failure, but switching devices, etc. that are the problem.
- Check all breakers in the transformer. The tripped breaker indicates which run/runs the problem is on. Immediate tripping-usually a dead short, delayed tripping-usually an overload.
- Check total lamp wattage's on the circuit.
- Check all connections and fixtures for dead shorts.
- Check for power to the transformer with a volt meter or test light. Check reset button on the GFI outlet and breakers in the house panel for the proper circuit.
- Make sure timer witch is on. If this does not solve the problem, remove timer. Insert male plug into the outlet inside transformer. This by-passes the timer and indicates if the problem is the timer.
- Cover the photocell with a cap or black electrical tape. If this does not solve the problem, remove photcell. Insert jumper plug into photocell outlet inside transformer. This by-passes the photocell and indicates if the problem is the photocell.
